Though this castle is no longer open to the public, you can still observe it from afar. If you’re wondering why you can’t get up close to this castle, it’s because its infrastructure is falling apart!
This castle in New York State was originally built as an arsenal in the early 1900s by Francis Bannerman VI (hence the name!) and was used as a storage facility for his business.

Boldt Castle, Thousand Islands
Next on our list of castles in New York State, it’s Boldt Castle. This beautiful New York State castle was built in the early 1900s by George Boldt.
Though this was initially meant to be a massive gift for George Boldt’s wife, she passed away before the works could be completed. It’s a stunning choice for castles in New York State to visit!
Sadly, all construction work on this stunning property quickly stopped, and it lay untouched until 1977 when interest in it grew. And now it’s one of the most popular castles in New York State.
After more than $15 million dollars had been spent by the Thousand Island Bridge Authority, this beautiful castle in New York State is finally open to the public.
This castle is almost ethereal due to its placement on the water, and you really do feel like you’re stepping into a fairytale with this one. This is such a fantastic choice for castles in New York State.

Singer Castle, Dark Island

Castle Gould, Sands Point
Castle Gould is on the smaller side, but it’s still one of the most beautiful castles in New York State. This estate features two castle-like buildings and was designed by the architect Augustus N. Allen in 1902.
If you’re looking for some trivia on this castle in New York State, you might be interested to know that it was modeled after Ireland’s Kilkenny Castle!

Highlands Castle, Bolton Landing
Next on our list of castles in New York State – is Highlands Castle in Bolton Landing. This castle in New York State… is also a hotel! So, if you’re looking to live your prince or princess dreams, you can here.
As far as castles in New York State go, this one looks straight out of a storybook, and the grounds make you feel as though you’re living in one too.
Though you can walk around the grounds of this castle in New York State, we highly recommend splurging on a luxury room on the estate.
The castle accommodates up to 18 guests at a time and has amazing views from every room to boot. This is a beautiful choice for castles in New York State.

Castles in New York State: Olana, Greenport
Next up on this list of castles in New York State, it’s Olana in Greenpoint. This beautiful stately home is the longtime home to the artist Frederic E. Church.
If you’re a fan of his work, you’ll be pleased to know that much of his famous artwork was created on site! though this place is technically a home, it is considered a castle in the New York State area. This is one of the castles in New York State you won’t want to miss!
Olana is currently one of the most visited landmarks in the state, and it’s considered a National Historic Landmark too. In case you were wondering, the song “Olana” written by Marc Cohn was written about this castle!

Beardslee Castle, Little Falls
Beardslee Castle is next on my list of castles in New York State you need to see to believe.
It is located just south of the Adirondacks and like Castle Gould, this stunning castle was also modeled after castles in Ireland (are you noticing a pattern with these castles in New York State?).
Having been built in 1860, Beardslee Castle is one of the oldest castles in New York State. These days, this stunning structure is home to an awesome restaurant and is commonly booked out for wedding parties, as you’d expect.
Some people believe this castle in New York State is haunted by spirits, and we might be inclined to believe that assumption as the place has actually burned down twice (in 1919 and 1989 respectively)!
It’s one of the castles in New York State with lots of interesting history and stories behind it.

Belvedere Castle, Manhattan
One of my favorite castles in New York State! And so easy to find if you live in the city! You might be surprised to hear that this beautiful castle in New York State is in the middle of Manhattan (click here to view my ultimate guide to NYC) .

If you’re down with architecture types, you might be interested to know that this castle is a mishmash of the Gothic and Romanesque styles.
This is one of smallest castles in New York State – and it certainly looks strange in the middle of Central Park, but it’s absolutely worth visiting as it’s so beautiful (here are some of my other favourite photo spots in NYC).
Be sure to head up to Belvedere Castle’s lookout point too, as it gives you unparalleled views of Central Park that you won’t find anywhere else. A surprising choice for castles in New York State… But one I think you’ll love.

Belhurst Castle, Seneca Lake
Next on my list of castles in New York State, it’s Belhurst Castle. If you’re travelling to Geneva, then be sure to pay a visit to this beautiful castle in New York State.
Though this was once a private residence, it’s now open to the public and boasts an amazing hotel, spa, and restaurant.
If you are lucky enough to stay here, make sure you sneak a peek at the beautiful ballrooms (if there isn’t a wedding being held in them of course!). This is a stunning choice for castles in New York State to visit and located in Seneca Lake – where there are so many things to do.

Mohonk Mountain House, Shawangunk Mountains
And last on my list of castles in New York State, it’s Mohonk Mountain House. This beautiful castle in New York State is now a luxury hotel. Surrounded by the Mohonk Lake, this view is probably home to some incredibly picturesque views.
