So, let’s get into this list of things to do in Alexandria Bay NY – time to start putting together your itinerary!
Things to do in Alexandria Bay NY…
Boldt Castle
First on my list of things to do in Alexandria Bay NY, it’s Boldt Castle. To be honest, we couldn’t write a list of things to do in Alexandria Bay NY and not mention this castle!
The incredible Boldt Castle is one of the things that you must do while you’re in Alexandria Bay. This rather majestic castle was built in the early 1900s by George Boldt for his wife. However, when his wife passed away suddenly, construction on the castle stopped just as abruptly.
Sadly, this stunning structure lay totally untouched for over 70 years until it was finally completed. These days, the castle is one of Alexandria Bay’s top tourist attractions and sees hordes of visitors each year!
Make sure you explore this place properly, as it’s home to a bunch of surprising details that you may miss if you look too quickly. It’s definitely one of the best things to do in Alexandria Bay NY!

Singer Castle
Another fabulous castle that we had to include on our list of things to do in Alexandria Bay NY is Singer Castle. Though you may expect a talent show to be held here, Singer Castle is so named because of the person who initially built it.
As the castle was built by Frederick Bourne (the president of the Singer Sewing Machine Company at the time), it was seen fit to name the castle ‘Singer Castle’. Realistically, it does make sense!
This 4-story castle is a sight to behold, and it’s got some interesting architecture to investigate too (heads-up to anyone who finds that kind of thing particularly enthralling)!
Let’s face it, if you love castles there are plenty of things to do in Alexandria Bay NY for you!

Scuba Diving
Next on this list of things to do in Alexandria Bay NY, it’s scuba diving. I bet you didn’t think scuba diving would be on this list of things to do in Alexandria Bay NY. Scuba Diving is an extremely popular thing to do in Alexandria Bay, and it’s easy to see why. It is called Alexandria BAY, after all!
One of the top places for scuba diving in the area is the Islander Wreck. As this spot is in the heart of the village, it’s easy to get to for most visitors.
If you fancy a scuba expedition, you can either take your own boat out or charter a diving boat for the day! If you’re looking for things to do in Alexandria Bay NY in the summer, this is a great choice.
Drive-In Theatre
One of the most unique things to do in Alexandria Bay is the Drive-In Theatre. A Drive-In Theatre is a popular spot for both families and couples, and it makes for a great date idea too in Alexandria Bay!
Playing a bunch of new releases, concerts, and old fan favorites, you’re sure to find something playing during the week that will please everyone in your party!
We highly recommend checking out their website for weekly showtimes and film picks. This is a great choice for things to do in Alexandria Bay NY for couples and families!

Fishing Charters
Next on my list of things to do in Alexandria Bay NY, it’s fishing! The Thousand Island area draws in fishing enthusiasts from all over the country, so it’s probably not surprising that fishing has made it on our list of things to do in Alexandria Bay.
Some of the fish here can grow to more than 6-feet long, so you may well find the catch of a lifetime! If you have your own fishing boat, you can head out on the waters on that.
However, if you don’t, be sure to look at hiring a fishing charter with an experienced guide. Even if you’re not a fishing-pro this is a still a really fun choice for things to do in Alexandria Bay NY.

Thousand Islands Winery
Thousands Islands Winery is next on my list of things to do in Alexandria Bay NY. Though there are a couple of wineries in Alexandria Bay, Thousand Islands Winery is the area’s first!
As you might expect, visitors can try various local wines here, and many are served with snacks and cheeses too.
However, that’s not all you can expect from this wonderful winery. You can tour the barn at Thousand Islands Winery, catch various live music events, and even get married here!
So, if you’re a wine fanatic, you’ll certainly want to add this place to your list of things to do in Alexandria Bay.

Thousand Islands Bridge
Thousand Islands Bridge is a stunning bridge system that connects New York with Canada. You might think that this is a rather strange thing to do on vacation, but if you’ve ever wanted to cross a border in real time, then you need to give this a try.
Though this bridge may appear simple, it actually involves five different bridges over the St Lawrence River, so be sure to keep an eye out for all five segments on your drive over!

We know we do! So, if you want to take things back to basics, add the Macsherry Trail to your list of things to do in Alexandria Bay.
If you’re traveling with the whole family, you’ll be pleased to know that this trail is only 3 miles long, so it should be manageable for even little legs. One of the trail highlights is the beautiful Chippewa Bay.

Otter Creek Preserve
Another fantastic choice for things to do in Alexandria Bay is the Otter Creek Preserve. This preserve opened to the public in 2015, and since then it has been one of the most popular spots in the area for hikers, bikers, and cross-country skiers (during the winter months of course!).
What makes this area special is the incredible views that it offers visitors of Otter Creek and Lynch Creek. Though you can get pretty good views along Otter Creek Preserve’s 1.9-mile walking trail, we recommend heading to the wildlife observation tower for the best vantage points. This is a lovely choice for things to do in Alexandria Bay NY.
The River Walk
Next on my list of things to do in Alexandria Bay NY, it’s the river walk. If you just want to have a chilled-out afternoon by the river, then we recommend heading to The River Walk.
The River Walk starts between Bay House Artisans and A Bay International on James Street. You can either take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront or head out for a jog!
If you have mobility issues, don’t worry – The River Walk is fully accessible! If you’re looking for things to do in Alexandria Bay NY that are chilled out, then this will be a great choice for you.

Uncle Sam Boat Tours
If you’re looking for a water tour in Alexandria Bay, then Uncle Sam Boat Tours are a great choice for things to do in Alexandria Bay NY. These guys are expert tour guides, and they have been offering cruises of the Thousand Islands for over 85 years!
You can book on to one of their regular sightseeing tours, or amp things up a bit with a lunch and dinner cruise from May to October. Our recommendation? The Two Nation Tour.
This tour is awesome, as it gives visitors two and a half hours in which to appreciate the best of Alexandria Bay. Oh, and it covers both American and Canadian waters, so you’re really getting a good deal for your money!

Mazeland
There’s no better way to spend an afternoon with the family than at a maze! One of the top things to do in Alexandria Bay is Mazeland, which is basically a walk-through hedgerow maze made of 2,500 trees!
Yep, you read that right. This maze is open from May through to Labor Day in September, so be sure you book in to avoid missing out. If you’re looking for things to do in Alexandria Bay during the summer, then this is great.
Grab some Ice Cream!
One of our favorite things to do in Alexandria Bay is to sit along the water with a delicious scoop of ice cream (or three).
Sure, it might be a little bit chilly to consider doing this during the winter months, but during the summer it’s the perfect cool down trick! The Whole Scoop ice cream parlor has picnic tables outside for their visitors to enjoy an ice cream while people watching.
What could be better? We’ll wait…

Antique Boat Museum
Whether or not you’re a fan of boats, you’re sure to enjoy Alexandria Bay’s Antique Boat Museum, which is next on my list of things to do in Alexandria Bay NY.
This unique museum houses more than 300 boats, and offers walking tours, rides, and much more! Be sure to leave a few hours for exploring this place, as we can guarantee that you’ll caught up in the nautical goodness.
Wellesley Island State Park
The final thing on our list of things to do in Alexandria Bay is Wellesey Island State Park. At this awesome park you can hike, bike, play golf, go camping, launch a boat – you name it, Wellesey Island State Park has probably got it.
If you have time to spare after all that daytime reveling, we recommend popping into the stunning butterfly house in the park – trust us, it’s worth visiting!
