Are you looking for the ultimate list of romantic things to do in Sydney? Here are my favourite date ideas in Sydney!
Sydney is one of the most stunning cities in the world, so if you’re there with your significant other you might be looking for romantic things to do in Sydney.
Between its majestic Harbour, iconic opera house and natural wonders, it’s full of exciting things to do. However, whether you live in Sydney or are simply visiting the area, you may be looking for some romantic things to do in Sydney that will spice things up. Sydney has plenty of fun and romantic date ideas, and hopefully this list will give you lots of ideas!
From amazing food tours to harbour cruises, there are so many romantic things to do in Sydney that will make any date perfect!
Sydney harbour cruise
If you’ve never done a cruise on the Sydney Habour, then this should be at the top of your list of romantic things to do in Sydney. If you pick the right cruise and take to the water at night-time, you’re guaranteed to have spectacular views of the Harbour. If you wish, you can even grab dinner on board!
There are lots of different cruise options available, from luxurious private tours (on your own boat) to shared group cruises. I’ve included some of my favourite options below…
Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge
The second thing on this list of romantic things to do in Sydney is climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Not only is it one of Sydney’s most iconic landmarks, but it’s a great place to get a picture-perfect view of the city. If you’re feeling adventurous, climbing this iconic bridge is certainly a great way to bond with your partner. Be sure to grab a picture at the top to prove that you conquered Sydney’s toughest climb!
Hiking around Sydney’s countryside
If being outdoors is one of your passions, then one of the best romantic things to do in Sydney is to embrace the area’s natural beauty. Why not try a walking trail to get your hearts racing?
The Federation Cliff Walk north of Bondi offers truly sensational views and is quiet enough that you may be able to sneak a kiss or two. Both physically rewarding and romantic, this is an excellent date choice for those that love the Great Outdoors.
I really love this hiking tour option to the Figure 8 Pools too – perfect if you want a more ‘guided tour’ option for your date! The Figure 8 Pools are so scenic and they’re just the perfect romantic hike option! Definitely one the most romantic things to do in Sydney.
Visit one of Sydney’s many beaches
Next on my list of romantic things to do in Sydney, it’s visiting one of the city’s many beaches! Sydney has some truly stunning beaches, and whilst there aren’t any ‘secret’ beaches around these days, there are plenty of hideaways that are worth a visit. One of the best beaches to visit as a couple is Reef Beach, as it’s small, quiet and has some cracking views.
Another great choice is Wattamolla Beach. With a waterfall and lagoon, a visit to this particular beach has got to be one of the most romantic things to do in Sydney.
Take a food tour
If you’ve both got a passion for food, then a Sydney food tour may be one of the most romantic things to do in Sydney for you and your other half. Taste Cultural Food Tours is a charity and social enterprise that looks to provide training to Australian migrants and refugees.
Therefore, by indulging in your foodie fantasies, you’re eating for a good cause! Offering several tours such as Taste of Vietnam and Taste of Afghanistan, you can travel around the world without ever leaving Sydney.
My personal favourite food tour in Sydney is the Chinatown food tour, which you can check out by clicking here.
Watch the sunset together
Next on my list of romantic things to do in Sydney, it’s watching the sunset together! There are so many places you can watch the sunset together in Sydney, from the marina, to Darling Harbour, to the top of a rooftop bar – find somewhere with a fantastic sunset view and enjoy it together at least once during your trip!
This list has some great places to watch the sunset in Sydney.
Learn to surf together
If you’re an active couple who enjoy learning new things together on dates, then learning to surf together is a really great option for romantic things to do in Sydney. Because Sydney has so many beaches around the city and suburbs, there are lots of options for learning to surf.
Why is this one of the most romantic things to do in Sydney? I always think learning new things together is super romantic, don’t you?
Get silly at Luna Park
Next on this list of romantic things to do in Sydney, it’s Luna Park. Luna Park is Sydney’s gem of an amusement park, and it’s an extremely popular tourist destination. If you’re looking for romantic things to do in Sydney, then look no further than this quirky park.
With amazing views across the Sydney Harbour and plenty of fun rides, you’ll find yourselves lost in the bright lights and exciting sounds. Be sure to head on the Ferris Wheel for an especially romantic ride that looks over the entire park.
Experience Vivid Festival
Though this isn’t a romantic thing to do in Sydney that’s available all year, it’s certainly worth a visit should you be in the right place at the right time! Vivid Festival is an amazing festival that’s got music, light, and sculptures galore.
The buzzing atmosphere is truly sensational, and it’s the perfect way to discover your loved one’s cultural interests in greater depth. Definitely a great choice for romantic things to do in Sydney.
Take a sea-plane flight together
What could be more romantic than a private flight in a sea-plane? There aren’t many cities that you can take a sea-plane flight in, so this amazing activity definitely makes my list of romantic things to do in Sydney.
It’s expensive – but it’s worth every penny – the views are just incredible from the sky and the experience is one you’ll never ever forget! An amazing romantic things to do in Sydney, and so memorable too!
Take a private helicopter flight
While we’re on flying above the city, your other option is a private helicopter flight! If you’d prefer a helicopter over a sea-plane, then it’s another great way to see the beautiful city of Sydney from above.
Again, this is quite an expensive thing to do in Sydney, but it’s unforgettable and absolutely once-in-a-lifetime. The view from above the city and absolutely crazy gorgeous!
Share an ice-cream
From super high budget, to super low budget! Next on my list of romantic things to do in Sydney, it’s grabbing an ice-cream! This probably won’t cost more than $15 in total – but it’s memorable and cute as a date idea. My favourite ice-cream place in Sydney is Aquas who have a really fun, modern and delicious take on ice-cream!
Dine out in style
There are some goreous restaurants in Sydney, and dining out in style (get dressed up, make it like a proper date night) is a fan idea for romantic things to do in Sydney. Here are some of my favourite romantic restaurants in Sydney that would be perfect for a date night!
Any of these restaurants would be a perfect choice for romantic things to do in Sydney.
Hit up Sydney’s shops
OK, shopping might not be everyone’s ideal date idea, but I wanted to include it on my list of romantic things to do in Sydney. Shopping in Sydney is pretty fun if it’s your kind of thing. Actually some of the retro shopping malls in Sydney are in really romantic looking buildings too.
There are also night markets in the city, which are great hotspots for romance. With its high-energy, great food and bright lights, it’s the perfect way to embrace your creative side and enjoy the infectious energy with your partner.
Visit Sydney’s Botanic Gardens
If you’re looking for romantic things to do in Sydney, then be sure to check out the Botanic Gardens. With free entry, it’s a bewitching place to explore with your loved one. It’s only a ten-minute walk from Circular Quay too, so it’s in a great location if you don’t want to spend the whole day in the gardens.
If you really fancy making a day of your trip, however, be sure to check out the 90-minute Aboriginal Heritage Tour that gives you an insight into the special, traditional plants that grow in the area.
A really special date ideathat you could combine with the Botanic Gardens is a special 11 course tasting meal experience at the world-class dining experience at Botanic House (inside the gardens). It’s really amazing, super romantic and delicious too! You can book this experience by clicking here.
Spend the day at Taronga Zoo
Though it may come as a surprise, one of the most romantic things to do in Sydney is a visit to Taronga Zoo! Offering panoramic views of Sydney Harbour and seen as one of the most beautiful zoos in the world, visiting Taronga Zoo is truly a wonderful experience.
If the 28-hectare grounds weren’t appealing enough, you can even camp overnight at the zoo on the Roar and Snore tour. The ultimate sleepover, you’ll be truly in the thick of it on this unforgettable glamping adventure.
Spend the night at an open air cinema
Next on my list of romantic things to do in Sydney, it’s an outdoor cinema! St George Open Air Cinema is one of the most impressive cinemas on offer in Sydney. With amazing harbour views, this 2000-seater offers al fresco cinema that makes for a memorable date-night.

Considered one of the most iconic sights in the city, it’s no surprise that catching a show at the Sydney Opera House is the final mention on this list of romantic things to do in Sydney. Attracting some of the world’s finest performers, you’ll be able to catch an amazing variety of artists, from classical music to more contemporary offerings.
If the show itself isn’t a romantic enough date night for you, you could take a private tour of the Opera House instead and glimpse behind the scenes of this amazing building.
Visit Hunter Valley
Next on my list of romantic things to do in Sydney, it’s Hunter Valley! Hunter Valley is one of the most romantic things to do in Sydney – as it’s all about scenery, wine, and beautiful surroundings. It’s so exciting, and awesome and when you finally see those amazing whales, it’s the most incredible experience! A gorgeously unique option on this list of romantic things to do in Sydney.
Take a picnic in one of Sydney’s parks
When the weather is nice (let’s face it, that’s most of the year in Sydney!) then there’s nothing nicer than having a romantic picnic in one of Sydney’s scenic parks. You could order a picnic hamper from specialist hamper companies, or you could put together your own picnic from one of the local supermarkets – either way it’ll be super romantic!
Here are some of the best picnic spots in the city…
