It’s so easy to fall in love with New Zealand

I recently read a blog post by the wonderful Geraldine from The Everywhereist about a trip she had taken to Bushman’s Kloof in South Africa (you can read her post here). In the post, Geraldine talks about her attachment to this beautiful place, and how when she and her husband Rand visit, it’s like being where they belong.

It’s their favourite place. It the place that brings out the best in them.

It really hit a chord for me. When I was reading it, I was mentally agreeing with everything she wrote. Except my Bushman’s Kloof, is Queenstown in New Zealand.

I really miss it there, and it took reading Geraldine’s perfectly beautiful description of her own ‘happy place’ to make it sink in. Queenstown is the place where Pad and I adore, it’s the only place I’ve ever called perfect. It’s the most magical, beautiful, breathtaking place, that I can’t even believe exists in real life.

That’s where we’d belong if the world wasn’t so big, flights weren’t so expensive and jet lag didn’t exist.

In our London apartment I surround myself with photographic reminders of Queenstown (we lived there for 6 months, so it’s not like I have a shortage of photos to choose from). I have a canvas in the living room, I have magnets on the fridge and I have countless frames in the bedroom.

I mean, don’t get me wrong – London is amazing and we’re beyond happy here too – but the muddy brown Thames doesn’t quite match up to the crystal clear waters of Lake Wakatipu. And I’ve yet to find anything in London that captures my imagination in the same way The Remarkables do.

So I guess that’s all this blog post is about. I miss New Zealand. Quite a lot actually.

But, I guess it’s justified. I mean who wouldn’t miss a place this beautiful?

JUST LOOK AT IT. IT’S LIKE SOMEONE DREAMED IT UP.

What a beautiful place! I think it would be hard to chose just one place: I love the vibe of Melbourne, the beauty of Thailand and the glamour of New York!
    Lots of love,

I would love to go to New Zealand – it looks so naturally beautiful. My happy place is on the beach in San Diego, but ICeland was pretty incredible too – it just filled me with awe.

Hi! I was wondering, how did you and your man manage to do a round the world adventure?! I wanna travel so bad, but it’s so expensive! My hubby and I would love to do something like that before having kids! 🙂

Hi Janna 🙂 We saved up for about 6 months prior to leaving for New Zealand so we had a fair amount saved up and ready. When we were travelling though, we worked the whole time doing freelance writing, social media consultancy, etc. We take a day for exploring, and then spend a day working if it rained or there were storms, etc! Or we’d spend the day at the beach, and spend a couple of hours working in the hotel in the evening. It’s all a balance 🙂

We were lucky because both our jobs are based online, so we could make money on the road easily as long as we had a WiFi connection.

One thing I’d say is, always save more than you think you need before setting off and try and and secure some kind of work to keep your funds up! Most arguements when you’re travelling stem from money issues – so if you can keep working as you go, you can cut all that stress out – which is what we managed to acheive 🙂 x

Wow, thats awesome! Your life looks so fancy! haha Might be hard for us who have jobs in a building in our home town.. lol but we’ll be going to Vegas for our one year anniversary so your post about that will help us a ton 🙂 Thank you! and I can’t wait to see where else you two go 😉 Good luck love!

Oh my gosh – you will LOVE Vegas – it’s one of my favourite places. My boyfriend and I just got engaged, and I was hinting at him I’d like to get married there! Where will you be stopping? x

Ahh congratulations!! best time ever! 🙂 Vegas would be a great place to get married!! I’ve been to vegas a couple of times (with girls) but my husband hasn’t ever been so I’m super excited for him to see it all and for me to experience it with my man! We’re debating about where to stay, we’re not going till our anniversary (in August – hot i know.. haha) but I’ve been to the Mirage – loved being in the middle of the strip and I’ve also stayed at the Mandalay Bay and that is my ABSOLUTE fav! but it’s so far from the middle of the strip.. barely even went further then the Excalibur.. lol But I plan on doing everything you mentioned in your post about Vegas for couples and cant wait!! 🙂

“It’s like somebody dreamed it up.” I totally agree! I got to Qt two weeks ago and it’s been amazing. What’s next for you two? Where will you go next?

I feel the same way about Queenstown. I just adored it when I was there–my NZ highlight. I don’t know that I’ve found that truly one happy place just yet, but Queenstown is definitely up there on the list!
