January 28, 2020
If you’re visiting in NYC and you’re looking for a fun way to spend the day, seeking out some of the the most famous restaurants in NYC (from movies and TV shows) is so much fun! I’ve put together a list below of all my favourite famous restaurants in NYC, so you can tick them all off your list!

Famous restaurants in NYC…

Katz Deli

First up in my list of famous NYC restaurants from movies and TV shows… Katz Deli! I mean how could we write this list and not include Katz Deli? This iconic diner is famous in NYC because it sells some seriously delicious food… BUT it’s also famous because it was the filming location for one of the funniest movie clips of all time. Yes, THAT scene in When Harry met Sally (video clip here!) was filmed inside Katz Deli.

21 Club

This place is the stuff of legends in NYC, and way back when it was the regular hang-out place of iconic performers such as Frank Sinatra, Humphrey Bogart and even Joan Crawford. Movie-wise, it was a filming location in the original Wall Street movie, and it’s the place where Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen filmed an iconic scene.

Smith & Wollensky’s

Next up in my list of famous NYC  restaurants from movie and TV shows… This steak house was the favourite of the crazy serial killer portrayed by Christian Bale in American Psycho. In the movie he order steak without hash browns (just in case you fancy ordering his same meal).

Smith & Wollensky's

Coyote Ugly Saloon

Next up in my list of famous NYC restaurants, In the movie Coyote Ugly, this is the bar where the main character Piper catches her big break. It’s one of those ‘dive bars’ in NYC, but it’s definitely gained fame since the movie was made!

For Sex and the City fans, Buddakan is a great location. In the Sex and the City movie, this is the restaurant where Carrie and Mr Big celebrated their engagement and had their ‘rehearsal dinner’ the night before their wedding. I mean, we know the wedding didn’t go to plan… But still!

The Rainbow Room

We couldn’t write a list of famous new york restaurants without mentioning the Rainbow Room. There have been countless movies and TV shows that have used the Rainbow Room as a filming location. It’s known as one of the most romantic spots in the city – and it’s often referred to in NYC-based sitcoms as a perfect date locations. Take for example, Friends, Will and Grace, and How I Met you Mother – all name-drop the Rainbow Room through their series run!

Joe’s Pizza, Downtown

Pizza and NYC are like star-crossed lovers. You can’t visit NYC without sampling some of the city’s famed pizza, and Joe’s Pizza was made even more famous through one of it’s fictional delivery boys! That delivery boy was Spider Man (or Peter Parker)! Definitely a famous new york restaurant you should visit!

Soho House

Last on my list of famous NYC restaurants from movies and TV shows, another location from Sex and The City, this was made famous in one summer-themed episode where the ladies all take advantage of the club’s facilities. You’ll need to be a member to enjoy them (rubbish for most of us!) but maybe you know someone who can take you in as a guest?
