What are the best castles in Colorado?

Bishop Castle

The first place on our list of the best castles in Colorado is Bishop Castle. This beautiful castle is among the most popular castles in Colorado, and its backstory is as impressive as its exterior.

Built by a man called Jim Bishop, this unique castle was a labor of love. Believe it or not, Bishop wanted to build a castle from the ripe old age of 15 and wouldn’t stop until his vision was realized. Described by many as elaborate yet intricate, this castle in Colorado has become one of the must-visit attractions in the state.

Now, you may be surprised by what you see at this castle. Unlike typical European castles, Bishop Castle is much less ornate. However, it features all the turrets, brickwork, and impressive features that you’d expect from castles in Colorado.

If you’re short on time, we’d recommend heading straight for the stained-glass windows as they’re a sight to behold and shouldn’t be missed. A fantastic choice for castles in Colorado.

Although plenty of people only visit this castle in passing, you can actually stay overnight at the Glen Eyrie Castle if you wish to. As a fully-functioning hotel and conference center, this castle in Colorado has 700-acres, and over 95 guest rooms available.

The rooms certainly aren’t cheap, but if you’ve got some cash to spare it’s well worth staying for the night. This is a must-visit choice for castles in Colorado.

Miramont Castle

Next on our list of castles in Colorado, it’s Miramont Castle. Located in Manitou Springs, Miramont Castle is certainly one of the best castles in Colorado.

If you’re looking to hit more than one castle during your trip to Colorado, then we highly recommend pairing a visit to Miramont Castle with Glen Eyrie Castle.

As well as being one of the most aesthetically pleasing castles in Colorado, Miramont Castle also offers an afternoon tea that is out of this world.

Served in the Queen’s Parlor Tea Room, guests are treated to a traditional afternoon tea with all the trimmings. Be warned that the tea is extremely popular, so booking in advance is a must. This is a great choice for castles in Colorado to visit.

Dunafon Castle

Dunafon Castle’s beauty has made it one of the best castles in Colorado for weddings. Built in 1941, this beautiful spot primarily hosts private events and celebrations.

If you’re not here for a wedding, never fear! You can still enjoy the 140-acre castle that is perched near Bear Creek. The folks that work here are incredibly friendly, and they’ll be more than happy to help you explore the trails and gardens located on the property. We think you’ll love visiting this option for castles in Colorado.

The castle itself is obviously a major draw, but the grounds and courtyards are almost as impressive as the main building.

Offering visitors plenty to do and modeled after the ancient Celtic Castles of yesteryear, this is by far one of the best castles in Colorado to check out.

Castles in Colorado: Westminster Castle

One of the older additions to our list of the best castles in Colorado is Westminster Castle. Built back in 1892, this famous castle is 175 feet of red rock goodness.

As well as providing fantastic views of Denver, Westminster Castle is also on the National Register of Historic Places. Some folks want to tick off each site during their lifetime, so be sure to check out Westminster Castle if that’s one of your goals!

There isn’t that much to do in the surrounding area, but we recommend dedicating a couple of hours to exploring this majestic castle. This is a great addition to our list of castles in Colorado.

Falcon Castle

Falcon Castle is next on our list of castles in Colorado. Falcon Castle in Colorado is a relatively new entrant to the castle game, but it’s made its mark since being erected in 1909 by John Brisben Walker. It’s one of the newer castles in Colorado.

Although we’d like to say that it’s still fully intact, this is one of the castles in Colorado that’s taken a bit of a beating. Back in 1918, there was a pretty gnarly lightning storm that destroyed the castle.

However, it did leave some impressive ruins that still draws crowds year after year. With guided tours on offer and several exterior walls available for viewing, Falcon Castle remains one of the finest castles in Colorado.

Redstone Castle

Some people confuse Redstone Castle with Westminster Castle, but these two beautiful castles in Colorado couldn’t be more different.

Redstone Castle was built back in 1902, so it’s one of the older castles in Colorado that you can visit.

In our opinion, what makes this one of the most special castles in Colorado is its famous guest list. Many well-known people have walked through the castle’s halls, but the most prolific is President Teddy Roosevelt!

If you want to join these famous faces by staying the night, you’re more than welcome to. Just be aware that prices can be pretty steep.

We think you’ll love visiting this choice for castles in Colorado.

Castles in Colorado: Cherokee Ranch and Castle

If you’re on the hunt for castles in Colorado that give off that old-world vibe, then the Cherokee Ranch and Castle should be at the top of your list.

Despite being built in 1924, this incredible castle looks as though it was constructed several centuries ago.

The building is in near-perfect condition, but the architecture is reminiscent of old-fashioned, 15th century Scottish castles. It’s a great choice for castles in Colorado.

Taking up an impressive 3,400 acres in Sedalia, this is one of the best castles in Colorado for anyone who wants to live out their medieval fantasies.

Richthofen Castle

Next on our list of castles in Colorado, it’s Richthofen Castle. It may sound as though it’s located in Bavaria, but it’s actually one of the most popular castles in Colorado! If you’re a fan of murder mysteries, then you’ll adore this castle.

It’s said that this was the site of a famous murder case back in 1911, where Charles Patterson was shot in a supposed case of self defence.

The case was eventually resolved, but there remains a slightly spooky atmosphere at Richthofen Castle that we can’t get enough of.

As another one of the castles in Colorado on the National Register of Historic Places, this spot is a must-visit.

Cano’s Castle

Another great choice for castles in Colorado, is Cano’s Castle. If you happen to be visiting Antonito, then Cano’s Castle is an area that should definitely feature on your to-do list.

It may not be as beautiful as some of the other castles in Colorado, but Cano’s Castle is a unique landmark that’s definitely worth a visit.

Believe it or not, this castle was built by a single man named Donald Espinoza. He literally constructed this place out of beer cans, as he wanted to make use of the junk that was constantly outside his house.

Hey, it’s certainly one way to reduce, reuse, and recycle! As one of the most unique castles in Colorado, you need to pay this place a visit.
